Kinesio Taping Assessments, Fundamental Concepts and Techniques

Course Description:

2 day course designed to introduce participants to the science, assessment and application techniques of the Kinesio Taping® Method. Lecture Tutorials of the history, science and theory of stimulus transmission through skin and resulting therapeutic benefit across efferent and afferent systems is reviewed. Corrections for Epidermis, Dermis, Fascia, Space, and Muscle in case study format are presented. Lecture and demonstration by the instructor, then participants perform the Manual Assessments and Movement Assessments. Discussion of the assessment flow charts to determine correct applications and general progression of treatment clinically.

Course Description:

This course offers a brief review of the basic taping and assessment concepts learned in the first 2 day course. Advanced taping techniques and assessments are presented as Lecture Tutorials to introduce step by step applications for chronic edema, scar and fascial management, nerve taping as well as acute and chronic pain management. Participants will be offered ample lab time to practice each advanced technique guided by the Assessment Flowchart for clinical decision making. Case studies are presented for designing a clinically relevant application within a treatment program guided by the instructor. Case studies are then introduced for small groups of students to practice the variety of assessment techniques and advanced taping applications.

Infant Massage Course for Parents:

Come join Dr. Elizabeth Harvey for three, one-hour sessions to learn time-tested techniques to promote bonding, relaxation and motor development for your infant! These sessions follow the Infant Massage USA® format, provided in a relaxed, warm environment. Come learn massage to prevent colic, promote sensory regulation, sleep, and boost immune systems. Handouts for home practice will be provided by the instructor. This curriculum is ideal for babies 2-6 months old, but younger and older babies are welcome. Ideas to transition positive touch into adolescent years will also be included. Dr. Harvey has over 16 years of experience as a pediatric physical therapist.

What to bring: 1. Your partner 2. Your baby (and/or baby doll if you are still expecting) 3. A towel or receiving blanket 4. An extra change of clothes for your baby 5. Oil (preferably non-scented oil such as safflower or olive oil)

What to expect: Each class will include discussion, cover strokes for specific areas of the body, and allow for parent feedback/tips to enable parents to learn from each other!

Cost per Couple: $149.00 for three sessions (Classes will be kept small to ensure personal attention.)

This five day class offers parents specialty instruction in the art of full body massage in a relaxed learning environment.
